„In office” vs. „in the office” vs. „at the office” în engleză

După ce am publicat articolul meu despre utilizarea in/at school, unul dintre cititorii mei m-a întrebat despre diferența dintre „in office” și „at office”.

În mod normal, am spune fie in the office fie at the office (observați articolul hotărât). Prepoziția „in” în propoziția „I am in the office” sugerează că biroul este o cameră și că sunteți în acea cameră. Cuvântul „at” pe de altă parte exprimă o idee generală despre locație și este adesea interschimbabil cu „at work”. Pentru a rezuma:

I am in my/the office. = My office is a room and I am in that room.

I am at my/the office. = I am somewhere near my office or in it; I am at work.

In office (fără articol) înseamnă ceva destul de diferit. Spunem că cineva este „in office” când lucrează într-o poziție oficială, de obicei pentru stat. De exemplu, am putea spune:

Bill Clinton was in office from 1993 to 2001.

când ne referim la mandatul său prezidențial.

Varianta at office (fără articol) nu este folosită în mod obișnuit. Dacă simțiți nevoia să spuneți „at office”, mai bine spuneți „at the office”:

I am not at the office right now.

I am not at office right now.
