“in a picture”还是“on a picture”在英语中的用法？

在许多语言中，我们在与图像相关的表达中使用的介词通常会翻译为“on”。然而，在英语中，正确的介词是“in”：
The boy in the photo looks sad.
The boy on the photo looks sad.
我们应用这个原则时，不论我们用哪个词来表示视觉媒介（例如“image”、“photo”、“picture”、“drawing”）：
There are no trees in the picture.
There are no trees on the picture.
介词“on”仅在我们想表达某物在物理对象表面时使用；例如“there's a cup on a photo”意味着杯子放置在照片上。类似地，当一件物品是另一件物品的上层部分时，我们使用“on”。这在像“postcard”这样的词中可能有些混淆。我们会说：
There's a house on the postcard .
There’s a house in the postcard.
原因是“postcard”是纸张本身，而不是印在上面的东西（与“picture”这个词不同，它指的是实际的视觉内容）。你实际上想表达的是：“There's a house (in the picture that is) on the postcard.”
类似地，如果你看到一个男人的图像画在信封（envelope）上，你不会说这个男人“in an envelope”，对吧？男人（即他的图像）是on an envelope。
