4 Architectural styles vocabulary

This section introduces various architectural styles common in North America and Europe. The list is not exhaustive; in the following two sections, we will look at a short overview of styles that are specific to the US and Europe.

Victorian architecture – characterized by ornate detailing, steep roofs, and bay windows.

modern architecture – a style emphasizing simplicity, functionality, and lack of ornamentation.

contemporary style – current architectural styles reflecting modern design trends.

Mediterranean style – inspired by Spanish and Italian architecture, with stucco walls and red tile roofs.

Tudor style – features steeply pitched roofs, tall windows, and decorative half-timbering.

Georgian style – symmetrical design, brick construction, and classical details. Named after the period of reign of British kings from George I to George IV.

Gothic Revival – features pointed arches, decorative patterns, and vertical emphasis.
