Notably absent from the gold medal count is Russia, which, based on past performances, would have been expected to rank among the top in Europe. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) barred athletes representing Russia from participating in the 2024 Games due to previous doping scandals and international law violations by Russian officials.
